6 Days and 5 Nights to Queen Elizabeth National Park and Lake Bunyonyi (Kabale)
DAY ONE:
JINJA/KAMPALA -QUEEN ELIZABETH
Early morning at 5:00am, depart Jinja for the trip through Kampala and then transfer to the western part of the country via Kampala-Masaka road. En-route, we make a stopover at the Royal Drum makers in Mpigi at Mpanga Central Forest Reserve and then at the Equator for photos and souvenir shopping. Here, on the Equator, we stand in both hemispheres at once and thereafter proceed to Queen Elizabeth National Park through savannah grasslands seeing banana plantations and herds of Ankole cattle with their incredible long curving horns arriving at Park in the evening through Kabale-Toro gate. Dinner and overnight at Simba Safari Camp.
DAY TWO:
GAME DRIVE TO KASENYI AREA
As the day begins, we also begin with an early morning game drive heading for the mating ground of the Uganda Kobs known as Kasenyi area. We search for the lions, elephants, buffaloes and other wild animals in their natural habitat before returning for lunch at Simba Safari Camp. In the afternoon we take on a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, a natural channel between Lake Edward and Lake George. Thanks to the abundant bird life that is sighted, and the elephants, buffaloes and hundreds of hippos that are cooling off at the shores, this cruise will definitely be one of the highlights of your safari when you return home. Dinner and overnight at Simba Safari Camp.
DAY THREE:
CHIMP TREKKING IN KYAMBURA GORGE
Take an early morning excursion to Kyambura gorge for the 8:30 chimpanzee trekking. The Chimps are man’s closest “relatives” They act like humans so do spend an hour with them to learn more. The trekking takes 2-3hours but it an exciting activity. There are more primates mainly Black and white Colobus monkeys and other animals like antelopes, hyenas in the middle of savanna grassland. This gorge has many bird species, hence an ideal place for birders. Return to Simba Safari Camp for lunch. After lunch if not so tired, check out more primates in the Maramagambo forest such as the checked Mangabey, black and white colobus monkey, red colobus monkey as well as the bat cave where pythons also dwell. Dinner and overnight at Simba Safari Camp.
DAY FOUR:
QUEEN ELIZABETH-LAKE BUNYONYI
After that beautiful experience with the Chimps and other wildlife at Queen Elizabeth, get going on to Lake Bunyonyi-Kabale via Isasha. The route offers higher chances of spotting elephants, Kobs and other wildlife. Make a stop over at Isasha, a home to the mysterious tree climbing lions. Take the northern park for the game drive. Look out in the fig tree branches for the rare cats. Isasha also offers great scenery. Carry on to Kabale via Kanungu arriving Bunyonyi Overland Resort in Kabale late in the evening. DAY FIVE:
EXCURSION OF LAKE BUNYONYI
This is serpentine shaped lake fine for swimming and is bilharzia free. The lake is not deep, as most people believe it to be only 40m deep except for its sinkholes on the Rwandan side. It also overlooks the beautiful Kigezi highlands. The lake has many islands such as Bushara, Punishment and Bwama islands. We take a canoe trip on the lake discover these islands that are good for birding as they are richly endowered with small birds especially Bushara Island as the name Bunyonyi suggests. It’s a good place for relaxation and taking photos of western Uganda. Return to Bunyonyi Overland Resort for lunch. In the afternoon, take an excursion of Kabale town the “Switzerland of Africa” not missing out visiting the Karwemera museum. Dinner and overnight Bunyonyi Overland Resort or Natures Prime Island.
DAY SIX:
